The present study was aimed to learn if there is a difference in the state- and trait-anxiety in pediatric inpatients comparing to normal helathy children using STAI (state-trait, anxiety inventory). A correlation between the state-trait anxiety and the-factors affecting anxiety was also explored. Thirty pediatric inpatients between the ages of 12 and 15 from three different general hospitals in Kwangju¢¥were surveyed in March, 1988. Thirty-seven normal healthy children of the same age enrolled in junior high schooi were served as a control group. The anxiety score was higher in the inpatient group comparing to the control group. A significant correlation was noted between state- and trait-anxiety in.the both groups. Girls showed a higher anxiety level than boys. The higher the mother¢¥s anxiety level, the greater the child¢¥s state-arxiety.
